About Harmony Explosion
Whether you are an experienced barbershop singer or a curious student, we welcome you to the Cardinal District Harmony Explosion camp! At Harmony Explosion's (HX) 4 day camp, our participants get to work with both a skilled men's and women's clinician, and a decorated teaching quartet. With approximately 125 young musicians registered, this camp is an excellent camp to sing new and exciting music and make friends with similar interests. With our selective hiring process, we make sure to select clinicians that the campers will enjoy. We also build in plenty of time for social interaction during lunches and in the evenings. On Saturday night, both the men's and the women's chorus get a chance to perform 3 songs each as well as a combined piece on stage in front of a live audience. This performance will also include a show from the teaching quartet.
A unique part of the HX camp is the encouragement of quartet and ensemble singing as well as other miscellaneous skills. As an incentive, we host a talent show where campers get to display their skills to all of their peers and staff. This is a chance for all of the campers that worked on their quartet and ensembles throughout the camp to premier their works. This event also includes more acts than singing. alone In the past, campers have recited poetry, played the piano, and even did some dancing. This Friday night event generally totals somewhere around 30 acts and 3 hours of the evening. Even with such a long evening, the audience is always highly attentive and very supportive. After the evening is over, we select 2 to 3 of the best acts to perform on stage during the Saturday evening show alongside the choruses and teaching quartets. Ultimately, this camp serves as an outlet for those campers who have an interest in singing, meeting friends, and working with highly skilled musicians. |
